CRITICAL UPDATE - 1/19/10

In Reference to 1/18/10 Update below:
The buses (from Eastern Bus) are being donated from an anonymous donor (pro-gas drilling advocate) and will accomodate 50 people/per bus.  10 buses are planned (so far) and anticipate more.  If we get 50 people in our area, we can get our own bus locally to pick us up.

So far, I know that buses will be departing from Greene, Vestal and Northgate Plaza on Front Street in Binghamton. However, if we have a large turnout for our group, then we can coordinate a bus closer to us to depart.

CRITICAL UPDATE!!! 1/18/10

Sign up to rally in Albany or kiss N.Y. natural gas exploration goodbye! says gas lease coalition leader

Frustrated by the lack of support for safe drilling for natural gas in the NYS Marcellus Shale, we are organizing an opportunity for residents to rally in Albany and show their support.

“A $70 million coalition lease was backed out of last week because companies are fearful of the regulatory climate in New York state. These companies continue to actively seek more property in Pennsylvania and invest more money in Pennsylvania while New York landowners sit with their hands tied by NYS and the DEC on what will be a boon for this area of New York.”

This lack of support will affect every resident in our area, “New York and its citizens cannot afford to chase away any more opportunities or businesses. It is simply time to put the EMPIRE back in the Empire State.”

The coalitions have oganized for, Monday, January 25th,

a bus trip to the state capitol. Residents should bring their fellow landowners, leased or not. We cannot state often enough that safe gas drilling will benefit every resident, regardless of whether or not their land is leased for natural gas drilling.”

The coalition busses will leave for Albany around 7AM based on location. Bus stops/locations will be determined as residents sign up for the trip.

The press conference in Albany should begin around 10:30 AM in the capitol.  Immediately following the press conference the coalition supporters will conduct their own rally outside the Capitol building, East Park.

“This is important. If we don’t stand up and express our support, we will watch the obstructionists kiss our chance of a gas lease goodbye.”  The rally is being planned for Monday, January 25 because the various obstructionist groups will converge on State Capitol to rally AGAINST natural gas exploration in New York around 11AM.

“While natural gas exploration has been conducted safely in New York for decades, the public and lawmakers have been misinformed repeatedly by these obstructionist groups whose agenda is only to kill new investments in some of the state’s most economically-deprived regions,”

The only thing that you need to bring is what food or beverage you may want on the bus - the exact location of pick up for the busses will be determined after reservations are made by who is going - so please email ASAP if you are interested.  I believe the bus ride if free, but will check on that.

We do understand that this is short notice, but if you can attend please email and set your reservation - pick-up points will be emailed back as soon as it is available - it is time that Albany hears our voices!

Thank you in advance!

Update 11/11/09 - BEWARE!

It has come to our knowledge there may be companies or landmen offering to broker a lease deal and particularly targeting the larger landowners.  You should be extremely careful about these proposals.  The major risk in these agreements is often the exclusive nature of the arrangement which binds a landowner to the broker for a period of time.

A company has approached local landowners in the Broome and Tioga County areas asking them to sign an agreement binding them for 30-90 days. The company is seeking a 20% fee over the current street offers and a 1% royalty.  You should be extremely cautious about signing any deals giving up a percentage of your royalties.

We would highly suggest you reject any proposals to sign a broker agreement.  The basic concept of our coalition has been that landowners are only committed if they like the deal proposed by the coalition.

By signing these broker agreements only serves to split up the coalitions and undermines what we as coalitions in the area are trying to preserve... the financial and environmental protection of both the larger and smaller landowners as a whole in as much contiguous acreage as possible.

If you have been approached to sign one of these broker agreements, we would appreciate it if you would let us know so we have a better idea of the exact areas they have been targeting.

Thanks!

Update 11/8/09

Our Coalition is still active and pursuing offers.  There has been some interest from gas companies, but due to the DEC's moratorium, obviously things are moving slowly.

Stay tuned!

Update 6/15/09

Coalition meeting to be held on June 23, 2009, at the Whitney Point Middle School Auditorium at 6:30 p.m.

Anyone wanting to join the coalition is welcome to attend!

Scott Kurkoski, Esq, from Levene, Gouldin & Thompson will be giving an update to the coalition members regarding what activity has been happening with our coalition and info regarding DEC's moratorium on the Marcellus Shale drilling.

Please attend this meeting if at all possible!

Update 10/14/08

Levene, Gouldin & Thompson will be sending out our initial overview to all of the prospective gas companies on the list (99? or so now).  They in turn will have two weeks to respond to us if they want more information about our coalition and the lease.

At that point, if we have interest, LGT will send out the lease and more detailed information on our group for the gas companies to decide if they want to make an offer.

We really have no idea what to expect about our offers or a timeframe.  Many factors could contribute to this negotiation (timing, market, election, NYS and DEC regulations, etc.).

Will keep you posted as we learn more.
